Mom's Check

Pregnancy Weight Guide

Based on your pre-pregnancy BMI, we provide the recommended weight gain for your current week (IOM Guidelines).

Why Weight Management is Important During Pregnancy

Maintaining the appropriate weight gain during pregnancy is essential for the growth and development of the fetus and the mother's health. Insufficient gain can increase the risk of low birth weight, while excessive gain can elevate the risk of gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, and cesarean section rates. It is recommended to check and manage your weight gain range based on your Body Mass Index (BMI), according to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) guidelines.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the biggest difference between Braxton Hicks and True Labor?
Braxton Hicks contractions are irregular, have inconsistent intensity, and often disappear with a change of position or rest. True labor contractions, however, become regularly shorter in interval, increase in intensity, and do not stop with rest. Use the Contraction Timer on this site to track your intervals.
When should I go to the hospital? (The 5-1-1 Rule)
It is generally recommended to go to the hospital when contractions are coming every 5 minutes, lasting for 1 minute or more, and have been consistent for 1 hour (for first-time mothers). If your water breaks, go to the hospital immediately regardless of contraction frequency.
