1RM Calculation Principle and Usage
1RM (One Repetition Maximum) is the maximum weight you can lift for a single repetition. Knowing your 1RM is essential for planning structured training routines focused on hypertrophy, strength, or power.
- Epley Formula: Generally more accurate for higher reps (8+ reps).
- Brzycki Formula: Highly reliable for lower reps (5 or fewer reps).
This calculator uses the average of these two popular formulas to reduce estimation error and suggest safe training weights. Since testing your actual 1RM can be risky, this calculation method is recommended for indirect measurement.
